Common questions

Is Ember really free?

Yes. The whole journal is free forever and never expires: unlimited entries, people and stories, worlds, the graph, the feed, sharing, and backup. Plus only adds sync between your devices and the full theme catalogue.

How do I get Ember today?

Ember is in public beta. You install it through Apple's free TestFlight app, and one link installs it on your Mac, iPhone and iPad. It needs macOS 15 or iOS 18.5 or later. The first 500 testers get a lifetime license of Plus at launch, and everyone after that gets a year of Plus free. Join the beta.

What happens without Plus?

Nothing is taken away. Without Plus, Ember works on every device, and each device keeps its own journal. You can back up your whole journal and restore it anytime, for free.

Which devices does it run on?

Mac, iPhone and iPad, with every feature on each, except the graph, which needs the room of a Mac or iPad. Ember is a native Apple app, so there is no Android, Windows or web version.

Can I leave whenever I want?

Yes. Export everything as plain JSON in an openly documented format. No lock-in, ever.
