Import from Contacts
Bringing your existing network into Ember is effortless. You can import people straight from your address book, letting you start logging interactions right away.
How to import
To bring your Apple Contacts into Ember, head to the File menu and look for the Import section. From there, select From Contacts…. Alternatively, you can click the Tools menu (the wrench icon) in the top right of the People tab and select Import from Contacts….
Ember will request permission to read your contacts. Once granted, it will map your contacts' names and basic details into your Ember network, without altering your actual Contacts app.
What gets imported?
Ember aims to keep things simple and secure. We pull in basic information such as:
- First and last names
- Nicknames (if set)
- Birthdays, seamlessly populating your timeline
- Contact photos for avatars
Your data stays local to your device and is never uploaded to any external servers.
Merging duplicates
If you've already manually created a person in Ember and then import them from your Contacts, you might see duplicates. Ember provides a way to merge these profiles from the person's page, ensuring all your journal entries and relationship details remain intact under one unified profile.
