Film Mode
Want to show Ember in a video, a review or a screenshot without showing the people in your life? Film mode restarts Ember onto a sample library, Elizabeth Bennet's from Pride and Prejudice, and puts yours back afterwards.
What you get
A full, lived-in archive: Elizabeth's family, friends and rivals across Longbourn, Meryton, Netherfield and Pemberley, a year of journal entries, stories like the Netherfield ball and the tour of Derbyshire, and real places on the map. Every tab works as it does with your own library, so you can record the graph, the journal, the Feed, the Map and sharing.
Turning it on
- Mac: Settings → General → Film mode, or View → Film Mode in the menu bar. Ember restarts straight into the sample library.
- iPhone and iPad: Settings → Film mode. iOS doesn't let an app restart itself, so close Ember (swipe it away in the app switcher) and open it again.
A short note on launch reminds you that you're in Film mode.
Going back to your library
Film mode lasts one launch. Quit Ember, or switch Film mode off (on iPhone and iPad, then close and reopen Ember), and the next launch is your own library, exactly as you left it. If you use the app lock, it's still locked.
What Film mode never touches
- Nothing is saved. The sample library lives only in memory. Anything you write or change while filming disappears when you leave.
- Nothing syncs. Your iCloud sync never sees the sample library, and the sample library never sees your data.
- No photos are written to your media folder.
- Nothing is scheduled. No nudges are set up for sample people, and reminders about your real people don't appear as banners while you're recording.
- Imports are off, so nothing from outside can land in the sample library by mistake.
